| Dental implants were conceived at the begining of the ‘60s as a method to replace a tooth or a group of teeth. The idea in itself is older, as old as the need to replace missing teeth extracted from the dental arcade. The dental implant is meant to replace missing teeth. In order to insert an implant a surgical intervention needs to be performed, so that the inserted implant can subsequently be integrated into the jaw bone by stiffening. Implants can be performed on both upper and lower jaw (maxilla or mandible). The implants that we currently use are last generation implants, chosen after a long experience with different systems. The surfaces of the implants are specialy treated so that any ionogen, electric, magnetic and thermal transfer towards the living tissues is stopped, increasing this way adherence and eliminating any possible non integration. The majority of the current systems do not have this special treatment of the surfaces and in time this can lead to micro necrosis, at the level of the junction between bone and implant and subsequently to losing the implant. When we are asked “How long in time do you guarantee your implants?”, we like to answer that our treatment by dental implant is made to last a lifetime, if the patient abides to the indications given after the surgical procedure, takes proper care and comes to follow up on a regular basis. |
